The Clencher

The Clencher

Glistening eyes over steaming coffee cup
She's looking through you to say your time is up
When the fruit is budding before the vine...
When the truth's been the fiction all the time...

she says, "you can't catch me...
I'm just too fast
Stumbling in the dark,
I slip right through your grasp"

And in that moment she's gone, you can't have her
She's done with you, that's the clencher.

Burning cigarette in a darkened doorway
Ignore the silhouette, only see the cherry
